Victoria College’s Student Government Association hosted its annual holiday party for Devereux Texas Victoria Campus youngsters at VC’s Student Center on Dec. 8.

The youngsters were treated to an enchilada dinner and a visit from Santa Claus during the event. Discount Tire donated throw blankets for each child.

“The SGA is honored to host such a meaningful event again this year,” said SGA President Malary Michalka. “It is so rewarding to see the smiles on the kids’ faces and work with all the volunteers who come to help.”

“The kids look forward to this starting before Thanksgiving,” said Devereux Texas Administrator Richard Perkins. “They ask if we are going to the college again and if they’re going to see Santa. Some of our kids don’t have long attention spans, but the kids are busy doing crafts here, and everyone works hard to keep them happy. They do a fantastic job.”

This was the third year VC’s Student Government Association hosted the event and second year for Discount Tire to participate.

“This is what Discount Tire is about,” said Sharon Mayfield, whose husband, Arlin, manages one of Victoria Discount Tire locations. “The company is about giving back to others, and this is the way for us to do it in our community. We collected money from our employees to purchase the throw blankets.”
